Nursing & IHS

The Integrated Health Studies major with a concentration in Behavioral Health is an excellent fit for students interested in nursing pathways. The IHS major is a great alternative major for pre-nursing students as the majority of the prerequisite courses for nursing school count toward the behavioral health concentration.

While you complete your coursework that prepares you to transfer into the College of Nursing (or other nursing programs) from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you will simultaneously be completing requirements for the IHS major, which will ultimately serve as a backup bachelor’s degree.  Some students even pursue a double degree in both Integrated Health Studies and Nursing, while others choose to finish their Bachelor of Science in IHS and then apply to post-bac programs for Nursing. There are many routes to completing your goals in nursing. A LAS Pre-Nursing advisor can make sure you are aware of these options and how to strengthen your application.
