Undergraduate Research

Exploring Research

Undergraduate research is an opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning to real-world investigations. Students can work alongside UIC’s diverse faculty and experience groundbreaking research in state-of-the-art laboratories and research centers. Research opportunities are available in all departments at UIC, including the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Why should students engage in research?

Students who participate in undergraduate research:

  • perform in-depth study
  • gain transferable skills
  • develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • define academic and professional interests
  • form relationships with faculty mentors and other students
  • feel sense of belonging on campus
